Use this method if you are having trouble getting a camera to connect via WiFi using the CleverLoop app.
This method applies for all CleverLoop compatible cameras.
Before you start, make sure that:
the Ethernet cable is properly connected between the camera and your router
that your phone is connected to your WiFi network and it is the WiFi network of the router that the camera is connected to, and
your WiFi network name (SSID) and password don’t contain any special characters such as = & “ / _
- you are connecting the cameras to your router's 2.4 GHz signal, not to the 5GHz signal. The cameras won't connect to a 5GHz signal.
- ensure that any outdoor camera has the antenna attached. Outdoor cameras have no internal antenna, and so won't work over WIFi unless the external antenna is connected.
Then follow these steps:
Open the CleverLoop app, and find 'Camera Diagnose' function, which you get to by pressing the 3 line icon at the top left of the home screen. It is the second last option on this menu.
There should be a list of the IP addresses for all the cameras that are connected to your network. If you have more than one camera connected, to make sure you are setting up the correct camera, check the camera ID number on the camera itself, and compare it to the id numbers that go with the various addresses.
If you can't see IP addresses for any cameras, please make sure your camera is connected to the router by Ethernet cable, and powered properly. Please also make sure your phone is connected via WiFi to the same network as the camera and base station.
Choose the camera that you want to edit, and enter its IP address into your web browser. The IP address is usually a number like 192.168.1.7. The last number should be different for each device connected to your network. In camera diagnose, you'll often see :80 at the end of the IP Address. Don't enter the ':80' part into your web browser.
A web page should pop up in your browser asking you for the camera’s username and password. The default username is ‘admin’ and password is ‘123456’. If you have changed the camera's credentials then you will need to enter these new details.
If you get an option, click video mode 1.
Click ‘Setup’ -> ‘Network’ on the left column -> ‘WiFi’. If WiFi is not enabled you will need to enable it.
Press the 'Search' button, and from the list of WiFi networks that the camera detects, choose the one you want to connect the camera to. The network with the highest RSSI number (signal strength) would usually be the one to go for , as long as it is your own network.
Enter your Wifi network password into the 'Key' field.
Press the ‘Check’/'Test' button to test the connection. A popup box will appear and test to see if the camera is connected to your Wifi. If the check fails, retype your Wifi password/Key as it may not be correct. Note: the camera won’t be able to connect if you have any special characters (= & “ /) in the network name (SSID) or password. If you have, then you will need to remove them by changing your network settings on your router before you can continue.
Once the test is successful, click 'Save'.
You can now unplug the Ethernet cable. The camera will take around 1-2 minutes to reconnect to the WiFi network. (Note, once the camera has reconnected, it will show up in Camera Diagnose again, but the camera will have a different IP Address.)
Follow the instructions on the app to add the camera if you haven’t already. You will no longer need to do the step that adds a Wifi connection to the camera using the app.
Wait a few minutes for the CleverLoop Base Station to detect the new camera and you will be good to go!
